BIG SCREEN: Star Wars Blu-ray bonanza

Written by Zen Terrelonge

It’s been 34 years since Star Wars (or Star Wars: A New Hope depending what era you’re from) was released.

Back in May of 1977 was when the George Lucas monster begun devouring peoples minds and even to this very day, fans go bonkers at conventions like BIG SCREEN (and perhaps in their own day to day lives), which must be an incredible feeling for the beardy director.

Now the space adventure is back with the aid of two relatively new technologies in Blu-ray and 3D.

The high-resolution format has now brought about the release of Star Wars 1-6 (or should that be 4-3?) so stargazers and warmongers can be dazzled in high definition clarity!

The 3D side of things comes in with the films being re-released in cinemas next year, which frankly was inevitable.

Star Wars legends Anthony Daniels (C3PO) and Jeremy Bulloch (Boba Fett) use the force as they reminisce over times past.

STAR WARS STARS Q&A

Do you think it’s fair to say everyone is a Star Wars geek?

Anthony: The trouble is if you say geek, like fan, they all say you’re not quite normal if you like Star Wars. The people who like Star Wars now cover three generations of society.

The Empire Strikes Back introduced Boba Fett, why is he such a revered character?

Jeremy: I think the costume speaks for itself. By putting it on, you don’t have to do much, there’s a mystery about him and you don’t know what he’s thinking.

What’s your most cherished Star Wars memory?

Jeremy: Being Boba Fett. Now my grandchildren are watching the films and they say, I quite like what you do as Boba Fett but Jar Jar Binks is best.

Anthony: It was in Tunisia where Tatooine was set, on the first day I was dressed up in the suit as C3PO – despite it being uncomfortable and unfit for purpose.

Did you get the part you wanted to play?

Anthony: Originally, I wasn’t interested in the meeting with George Lucas but my agent told me not to be so stupid and never to say no! I found C3PO so interesting because he wasn’t a hero or a villain, he was just rather odd.

Jeremy: If I could have been someone else, I’d say Han Solo, he’s a bit of a villain too.

Over the years George Lucas has made numerous changes and cuts, what would you like to change?

Anthony: I used to look at Mark Hamill who played Luke Skywalker with his floppy clothes and just really hate him.

Jeremy: It’s really rather sad Boba went so soon, I’d at least like to have seen him fight for 10 minutes.

Do you recommend watching episodes 4-3 as they were released or chronologically as 1-6?

Anthony: Definitely, 1-6 to avoid confusion, it makes sense!

What’s the future for Star Wars?

Anthony: Curiously enough, the Cartoon Network series of Clone Wars appeals to children despite never having actually seen Star Wars and then when they get older, they’ll move over to watch the films.

What’s your favourite film?

Anthony: The Phantom Menace.

Jeremy: Empire Strikes Back because Boba Fett is in it.

Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray arrives from a galaxy, far, far away on 12th September.
