Starring – James Franco, Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, Craig Robinson, Danny McBride, Emma Watson.

The atrocity that was Movie 43 still haunts me, and while the film boasted huge cameos from the likes of Kate Winslet and Hugh Jackman, it still sucked.

This Is The End also prides itself on an endless supply of A-List actors, but with the cast playing themselves, which presents an interesting satire-charged dynamic.

Seth Rogen’s long-time friend and fellow Canadian Jay Baruchel visits LA and reluctantly joins the former for a party at James Franco’s pad. I say reluctantly because Jay hates Seth’s new pack of chums, which comprises Jonah Hill, Craig Robinson, Danny McBride and, of course, James.

The plot thickens amidst an apocalypse, which forces Jay and company to band together and join forces against the fiery threat outside the protective walls of James’ crib. With supplies in short, ahem, supply, the group barricade the house and ration the dwindling supply of food, water and drugs, though tension builds and factions are forged.

The idea behind the film is really very basic – it’s based on a short film featuring Seth and Jay – but childish masturbation and sex jokes – some of which involve Harry Potter’s Emma Watson – had me crying with laughter.

It’s interesting to see such a plethora of comedic cameos pooling their wit together, though it’s arguable that such an abundance of talent should have presented laughs galore, rather than flashes of brilliance here and there.

6/10

This Is The End is in cinemas now.
